Pushpa Veena represents the journey of both Debashish Bhattacharya and Tiffany Chin searching for a sound that can't be found in the modern world. Pushpa Veena is a symbolic sound of the cosmos which comes from the ancient souls of Gurus and Saints throughout the world. Pushpa Veena is an acoustic slide instrument but very different and unique from the previous creations of Pandit Debasish Bhattacharya's trinity guitars: Chaturangui, Anandi and Gandharvi.
One of the inspiration for creating Pushpa Veena is to find a way to incorporate the ancient classical and iconic sounds of folk music all around the world, specifically India and Asia into a music instrument. Our mission is to honor the true form and integrity of musical expression through our creative persistence. We want to bring forth the wisdom and healing qualities of Gods and Goddesses into something tangible, audible, sensible, and experiential.
The purity of traditional music is fading away and becoming less important and unattractive for many musicians, students and listeners today. In an effort to help keep the presence and integrity of different music traditions alive, Pushpa Veena has emerged to embody, embrace and unify the divine musical and cultural expressions found throughout the world.
Pushpa Veena is connected to the human body, mind, and soul. It is eternal as well as celestial, holding the power of mother nature, curing and healing the musician with its ancient and majestic depth of sound. Within the tone of Pushpaveena, you will hear and find a deep cry for love and truth. The instrument encompasses the Sattvic gunas of positivity, serenity and peace.
The structure of the Veena as well as the sound and energy generated by the strings are connected to the Vedic and Buddhist philosophy and practice in addition to other older schools of art and musical and spiritual practices.
The Veena holds the beauty of a flower and helps one to attain liberation or "Moksha."
This uniquely one of a kind 25-string Veena is played as a slide instrument, laying the veena on one’s lap.
The inspiration for Pushpa Veena also comes from the desire to create a slide instrument that is better for the player’s posture. Many slide instruments are laid on one’s lap but playing for long periods can cause lots of knee and back pain. The design of Pushpa Veena gives a generous height in the back of body which allows the instrument to sit higher and significantly reduce the weight off the player’s knees. From Debashish Bhattacharya’s many years of experience playing slide guitars, this new instrument gives the musician more freedom and supports longer sitting time to practice and perform. Often times, students will practice and start to hone in their skills but then fall out of it from posture related body pains. We wanted to create an instrument that gives a unique and wondrous soundscape while being smart in helping and protecting the player’s posture from unnecessary body pains so one can dive deeper into his/her music practice.
This exclusive creation is a patented instrument.
